This is an old story that gets a lot of attention, but the answer is no. Having sex in a hot tub is no safer than having sex out of one. However, this interpretation is based on a factual scientifc truth. The male reproductive system, more specifically the part of the system that makes sperm, is highly sensitive to heat. This is why the scrotum is located outside the body, where the temperature is roughly 5-6 degrees cooler than inside. When the body is hot the scrotum relaxes and the testes fall away from the body and cool off, and when the body is cold the testes firm up and pull the testes closer, warming them up. So while the heat of the hot tub may affect current sperm production, in most men it has little affect on already produced sperm. The rumor that hot tubs kills sperm prbably got it'start when doctors recommend that low-sperm count males avoid hot tubs to increase their chances of reproduction.
