I have heard that anal sex is much safer than vaginal or oral sex with regards to STD's. Do STD's spread through anal sex?

As with all sexual acts, anal sex carries with it certain health risks. Whether male to male or male to female, the trauma caused by anal sex can create ideal conditions for the spread of STD's. Furthermore, contact with feces can spread a whole host of infections including the liver damaging Hepatitus-A. In addition, the colon/rectum of the "receiver" of anal sex can become infected with gonorrhea, chlamydia, or herpes. Symptons of an infection by any of the above STD's could include diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain.
